FLSA And Equal Pay Violations
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is a federal employment law that requires employers to fairly compensate their employees. Specifically, the law provides that employers shall pay a minimum wage and overtime pay to employees in certain types of jobs. Covered nonexempt employees must receive overtime pay that is 1.5 times their regular pay for each hour worked over a standard 40-hour work week.
Another federal law created to ensure that workers receive fair compensation is the Equal Pay Act. The EPA requires that men and women receive the same pay for work that is substantially similar in nature and provided for the same employer. Women whose rights have been violated under the EPA may bring a claim seeking back pay, liquidated damages, reasonable attorneys’ fees and a pay raise to make their pay equal to that of similarly situated male employees at their place of employment.
If your rights under the FLSA or EPA have been violated by your employer, contact Mezibov Butler in Cincinnati, Ohio. An experienced employment law attorney at our firm can answer your questions and help you determine how best to proceed to protect your rights.
