Some car accident injuries do not appear immediately

On Behalf of | Jun 22, 2019 | Firm News |

With responsible driving and some luck, you may never experience an automobile accident. Still, car crashes are not exactly uncommon in Cincinnati. While you may be able to receive financial payments for your injuries and property damage, you must do what you can to recover fully

Some automobile injuries are impossible to miss. For example, if you break an arm during a collision, you probably experience instant pain. That is not the case with other injuries, however. Because some injuries do not appear immediately, you should always ask a doctor to examine you after any car wreck. Here are three types of injuries that you may not discover until days or weeks after a collision.

Neck injuries

Injuries to the soft tissues in the neck and back are common during automobile accidents. While you may experience whiplash after a rear-end collision, you may also develop long-term neck pain. Because chronic pain may complicate your everyday life, you must never ignore potential neck injuries.

Brain injuries

Your brain is arguably the most important part of you. As such, you simply must take potential brain injuries seriously. In the aftermath of a collision, you may not notice the warning signs of a concussion or another type of traumatic brain injury. Remember, you do not have to bump your head in a car crash to sustain brain damage.

Hand, wrist and arm injuries

As you probably know, sometimes you see an oncoming collision before it occurs. Even though your arms, wrists and hands may stiffen to help absorb forces from the crash, your reflexes may cause you to sustain further injury. That is, tensing during a collision may result in damage to the nerves, tendons and muscles in your extremities. This damage may not appear immediately, though. Instead, you may begin to experience numbness, tingling or loss of feeling days, weeks or even months after a collision.

Whether you sustain one of the above injuries or a different type of injury, you must realize the importance of seeing a medical professional after any car accident. Because some symptoms do not show up quickly, you also must pay close attention to your body to ensure you receive the care you need to recovery completely.
