How to prove your injuries after a car accident

On Behalf of | Dec 26, 2018 | Uncategorized |

When someone else causes you to suffer injuries in an auto accident, you may want to seek compensation. Getting money for your medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering may be possible through a lawsuit or insurance claim.

However, you must be able to provide evidence of your injuries to receive enough damages. Proving fault is not enough. Unless you properly document your suffering, you may not get enough of a payout to mitigate your financial burdens. Here are some tips for proving the extent of your car accident injuries.

At the scene

When you experience a collision, you must take some immediate steps, as long as you are well enough to move around. You should take photos of your injuries. Additionally, be careful about making statements about your well-being to other drivers, witnesses or law enforcement. Do not claim you feel fine.

Immediately after the crash

If you think you are hurt after a collision, seek medical help as soon as you can. Depending on the seriousness of your condition, you may need to visit an emergency room. Whenever you see a doctor about your concerns, describe your symptoms in detail. Statements with detail will help your doctor properly diagnose any injuries.

In the weeks and months following the incident

Properly documenting your injury involves specific steps even weeks and months after the wreck takes place. You must adhere to any instructions from your doctor, including taking any prescription medications or seeing a physical therapist. Additionally, you must be mindful of not making any contradictory statements or taking contradictory actions. For example, you may want to avoid returning to work or going on vacation immediately after the crash. Lastly, you should write in a journal to describe your symptoms and recovery.
