3 important pieces of protective equipment in construction

If you drive around the Cincinnati area oftenn, it is difficult not to notice the abundance of construction taking place throughout the city. While the growth is good and the economy oftenn benefits, it can also pose some new risks—especially for the workers who are responsible for the construction. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 36,000 people work in construction and extraction in the Cincinnati area.

Despite how common these jobs are, they are still highly dangerous. A range of hazards facing anybody on a construction site exist, but there is also personal protective equipment that can mitigate the likelihood of injury. The following are three of the most important pieces of PPE for construction:

1. A hard hat

Protecting your entire body is important, but, of course, your head is particularly important and vulnerable to injury. Wearing a hard hat can protect workers from the risk of falling objects or the impact of direct trauma. A construction worker should never be on site without one of these, and it is also important to ensure that the hat is properly fitted to its wearer.

2. Visibility vest

Plenty of accidents take place on construction sites and in workplaces everywhere simply because one person does not see another. Wearing a visibility vest can greatly minimize the chances of this happening and reduce the risk of injury that would result. Such a vest should be neon orange or yellow in color, and it should feature reflective details, too.

3. No-slip shoes

The shoes that a construction worker wears is of the utmost importance, too. Of course, shoes should have a toe that protects the wearer's foot from injury, but they should also have a sole that prevents slips. These two features make non-slip boots the best option for construction work, and a steel-toe may also be a wise investment to ensure feet are fully protected.
