2 common construction site violations that oftenn lead to death

Many people are probably aware that the construction industry has one of the highest rates of injury and fatality out of all other industries. Construction accidents in the Hamilton area that result in serious injury and death are publicized more oftenn than incidents that do not. According to ISHN, the first year of employment is the most dangerous for construction workers; 60 percent of construction site accidents happen during their first year on the job.

Many of those incidents are not caused by inexperience. A large majority of construction site accidents occur because of safety violations. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) requires all employers to follow their safety guidelines to help prevent accident and worker injury. When employers violate those guidelines, their workers pay the price. Below are a few common construction workplace safety violations.

Fall protections

Falls are the leading cause of injuries for construction workers. To prevent falls and minimize the risk of serious injury, employers must provide safety harnesses and other fall prevention equipment for workers.

Electrical

“60 percent of all fatal electrical injuries happened in the construction industry in 2015,” states the Electrical Safety Foundation International. Workers come in contact with various electrical components. When they encounter damaged and exposed electrical wires and other components, they can suffer shock, electrocution injuries and die.

It is important for workers to understand that it does not matter who is at fault for their accidents. It is up to them to report them, get proper medical attention and follow all necessary steps to prevent complications with their workers’ compensation and personal injury claims.
