Ohio drivers get good news before the holiday travels

As the holiday season continues, many Ohioans are planning to celebrate the holidays with friends and family. For most people, this means driving to and from other places. The increased traffic on public roads can increase the risk of hazards for drivers, but luckily, Ohio drivers were given some good news that may make them feel more secure as they travel this season.

According to a recent study conducted by Bankrate.com, Ohio ranked as the second best state in the nation for drivers (second only to Iowa). Bankrate gathered information from multiple sources, such as the FBI, National Association of Insurance Commissioners, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Department of Transportation and others to judge the states.

How were the states ranked?

Each individual state was ranked based on a variety of factors that contribute to the overall quality of the driving experience. According to the study, the criteria included,

· Average commute times

· Average annual car insurance costs

· Estimated average spending on fuel

· Average cost of car repairs

· Amount of car thefts

· The overall amount of vehicle deaths (relative to miles driven)

For each of these factors, the states were assigned a rating in the range of 1 to 10, with a possible overall score of 60. Ohio scored a solid 46.2, only behind Iowa who scored a 48.0.

Urban vs. rural areas

One of the main factors in the study was the issue of general road safety. While this is certainly a key concern in areas that have a high population density, the study found that rural roads were actually the most dangerous. Their danger factor comes in large part from a drivers often being less attentive and a general lack of safety infrastructure, e.g. guardrails, rumble strips, etc.

While the issues found in every state could be measured to a greater or lesser degree, the issues are still very present and appear to be going nowhere. As such, drivers in every state will be dealing with these problems for the foreseeable future, including the holiday season. However, if you do run into legal issues while travelling over the holidays, you have options for legal help. It is recommended that you obtain the services of an experienced and knowledgeable legal professional if you do find yourself with legal issues.
